Bizarrely it seems to be time to be packing up my room after another year at university....(doesn't time fly when you are having fun? Haha) so of course I have spent this evening watching TV and setting up this blog rather than tackle the seemingly immense task in front of me. We only moved house a few weeks ago but somehow my room has already descended into the pit that my dad has been nagging me about since I was old enough to tidy my own room. This time I sort of have an excuse. I blame revision.
Anyway... although I am not entirely sure as how I managed to pass my 3rd year of Medical school after the way I am sure I did in the written exams....it appears that I have passed! Consequently, on wednesday I'm flying to Tanzania for 9 weeks for my Elective. Having not let myself really believe that I was going to actually get to go...I now feel extremely disorganised and feel like I have probably forgotten to do or get something very important. So...this trip is the reason why I set up the blog so that anyone that cares to (ie-my parents) can keep up to dateish on my travels. Plus it is nice to hear from everyone :)
So I'll probably see you all in 10 weeks time unless you happen to be one of the lucky people that gets to see me in the next 5 days!

Yay a blog! I can't believe you're going to be in Tanzania for 9 weeks, it's so exciting!(probably more so for you than for me I'll admit) Don't go swimming with your passport again and keep an eye out for charging rhinos and tigers and monkeys and badgers and I'm really showing my lack of knowledge about Tanzania now so I'll stop...Be careful and I'll look forward to reading your blog entrys! Jules xx
Hi Sally
Glad to hear you got off safely - hope you arrive equally so with all your luggage!
Where's the rhino statue? It looks like you're kissing its behind!
Note for Jules - you can get honey badgers in Tanzania, and they're quite fierce! Plus lots of monkeys and lions but no tigers.
Good luck Sally and friend. Did you remember the cockroach killer? If all else fails use a shoe!
Cousin J has set up a "feed" for me, if I can work out how to use it.
thank goodness you're not relying on nicky to hold the lamp whilst cockroach hunting, just as you saw one she would scream and move!!!
have a great time. Good luck, some how I don't think MRSA will be the biggest problem you encounter over there
Happily mum got me a headtorch so I can catch my own cockroaches! We have only seen one very little cockroach...we have a lizard in our bathroom but it is not very big or threatening so we are letting it stay there for now until it finds its way out again!
The uplifting tale of Rudolph.
Rudolph the rhinosaurus had eaten too much, and foolishly sat down and started relieving himself on an ant's nest. As any good geological student will tell you "the tights come down and the mites go up". Rudolph will know to keep his tights on next time - once bitten twice shy.
Luckily for Rudolph, as can be seen from the photo, a young medical student, and keen entomologist, was passing by who instantly recognised Rudolph's predicament.
Using a procedure described in more detail in Pete Docherty's auto-biography, she exposed the affected area and blew on Rentokil powder which anaesthetised the area and killed the ants.
Rudolph the rhino no longer had a saurus.
It's amazing what you learn at Uni these days.
A timely reminder for your safari...if you have managed to book one.
If you go on a walking safari, and are wearing long white flares, don't walk over an ants nest or the guides will be very amused when you try to remove said ants.
